Field guide No. 447
Fossil circuit beneath a future city
Dig site, motherboard layer.
In an excavation pit beside a city of tall towers, the exposed rock is one huge fossilised circuit board, with ammonites set among the chips. Someone was here first.
Field noteFossils are things that once lived. A circuit board in the strata is rock remembering something it shouldn’t.
Also possible, also breaking category
A stone missing itselfHollows in rock come from wear. This one wore away in the outline of a smaller stone that is nowhere about.
Last stop, asparagusTowers are tall, green and tapered when architects allow it. Asparagus has been doing it for free.
The zebra’s unfinished stripesStripes are pigment, not ribbon, so the spool is a category slip. The half-zebra is otherwise sound.
Pomegranate packed with ruby diceSeeds that are dice: still a fruit, still dice, just a fruit doing a game’s job.
