Field guide No. 591
Stone skipped ripples across the meadow
Three bounces, all grass.
In a green meadow, a single grey pebble rests at the centre of rings of grass rippling out like water, with two more sets of rings further off where it bounced. A very good throw over a very dry pond.
Field noteSkipped stones ripple water. This one bounced across a meadow and the grass rings out like a pond.
Also possible, also breaking material
The sea has pocketsWater stitched like denim breaks the fabric rules, not the logical ones. The key is perfectly ordinary.
Snowfall from a bitten harvest appleApples are white and crisp inside. This one is packed snow and spills flakes from the bite.
Between stationsFish heads and fins protrude from smooth tide-pool rock. Fish and stone have not agreed who is who.
Hinged boulder across a quarry fissureQuarried block pleated like a paper fan to straddle the crack below it.
