Field guide No. 589
Star tears falling at dawn
The stars, welling up.
Over dark hills just before sunrise, glass-clear drops hang from the starry sky with a star caught glowing in each, one already falling. The night is not taking the morning well.
Field noteStars are far-off suns, not drops. Here each one hangs in a teardrop of glass, ready to fall.
Also possible, also breaking material
Hidden connectionStations are often under hills. A zip is just a fussier tunnel portal.
Air bridges a broken piano stringA snapped string goes slack. Here the air has taken up the gap and kept the tension, which air has never had.
Butterfly wings beneath the snowAn orange wing lies partly buried in fresh snow. Winter has filed it under delicate.
Whisper between abandoned payphonesTwo handsets joined by a ribbon of clear water. Water is a poor wire, but it makes a connection of a sort.
