Field guide No. 728
Square dust devil over desert
Weather, boxed.
On a flat, scrubby desert, a dust devil of orange sand spins up in the shape of a tall square block with sharp edges. It is very tidy for a whirlwind.
Field noteWhirlwinds go round; that is what a whirl is. This one spins with four flat sides and corners.

Shadow waterfall on dry limestoneA shadow needs something in the light. This one falls down the cliff with nothing there to cast it.
The sideways forest meetingTrees grow away from the ground they stand in. These stand in a wall and grow level, as if down were east.
Lightning frozen in amberAmber holds a lightning bolt mid-fork, still lit after the resin set.
Winter drawBehind a slab in a red canyon there should be more canyon. Through the door there is snow instead.
