Field guide No. 382
Porcelain heart of an artichoke
Peel carefully.
An artichoke on a red cloth is peeled back to show layers of white porcelain bowls where the heart should be, with a few broken saucers beside it. Steam at your own risk.
Field noteAn artichoke is leaves to the middle. Fired china where the heart should be is wrong stuff.
Also possible, also breaking material
The ribbon quarryQuarries cut rock into terraces. Cutting satin the same way is waste, but legal waste.
Emerald glass wave at dawnGlass behaves like water if you allow it centuries and some heat. This one skipped the waiting.
Sound caught in a silver colanderSound has no shape to strain; glass ripples do. As sculpture it stands; as acoustics it leaks.
Wax transformer substation at midnightTransformers are steel and oil. Built in wax with lit wicks, they’d melt at the first load.
