Field guide No. 517
Pendulum anchors a swinging room
The room keeps time instead.
In an old laboratory hall, a brass pendulum hangs perfectly still from a tall iron frame while the whole room swings around it in a blur. Someone has this the wrong way round.
Field noteA pendulum swings and the room keeps still. Here the bob holds still and the whole room does the swinging.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Ginger cat’s rainproof circleRain falls everywhere it can. It goes round this cat as if someone had asked politely.
Time fliesHourglasses are real and so are butterflies. Neither glows when poured.
The long way homeRoads may go anywhere they are built. Resting on cloud is where engineering would object.
Ammonite awakening on shaleFossils are what’s left after the animal has gone. This one came back for its body.
