Field guide No. 463
Pelican’s one sip too many
Drinking up the coast.
A white pelican on a rock dips its bill into the shallows and the sea pours into it as a whirlpool, the whole shore draining toward its beak. It will regret this.
Field noteA pelican’s pouch holds a few litres. This one is draining the shoreline and seems determined.
Also possible, also breaking scale
Giant feather fossil at dawnFeathers fossilise. A feather this big needs a bird this big, which nobody has found.
Still processingGelatine sets at any size given a big enough mould. Deserts are not known for helping.
Follow the threadA big enough spool is just a cable drum with a sewing problem.
The teabag lighthouseLighthouses stand on rocks and glow; teabags only stand in cups. The steeping is the problem.
