Field guide No. 561
Impossible triple braided stream in spring meadow
A stream with its hair done.
In a spring meadow of yellow flowers, a clear mountain stream divides into strands and plaits itself over and under its own water before carrying on downhill. Someone has very patient fingers.
Field noteStreams split and join but cannot cross over themselves. This one plaits its water like hair.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Snail’s trail of springSlime is just slime. Flowers sprouting from it in seconds is spring on fast-forward.
Terrier’s dream fills the roomDogs dream, everybody agrees. Doing it outside the head, at sofa scale and translucent, is one step on from there.
Black birds make an impossible turnRooks stream across the sky in a line, then turn a right angle. Nobody told the birds about curves.
Floating pollen flower among hollow bloomsPollen drifts as loose dust; here enough of it holds the shape of a daisy floating above its neighbours.
