Field guide No. 369
Hermit crab’s jade insulator shell
Moved into the power grid.
A hermit crab on a mussel-covered shore wears a pale green glass insulator as its shell, ribs and all. It is very well insulated.
Field noteAny hollow that fits will do for a crab between shells. A glass insulator happens to fit.
Also possible, also breaking nothing
Roots under the spare stepRoots take the shape of whatever’s missing, given decades. Slow masonry, but masonry.
Moon leaveBalloons come in every shape, moons included. Sleepiness is printed on, presumably.
Departure without arrivalTwo empty frames and a ribbon is an installation, not a paradox. Galleries have shown less.
Unseasonal attendanceTwo hundred napkins, one ladder, a free afternoon. Entirely doable; merely undone.
