Field guide No. 1125
Hare with groundbound ears
Ears to the ground, literally.
A hare crouches on a bare ploughed field with its long ears stretched out flat along the soil behind it like two dragged ropes. It is listening, and not to anything above the surface.
Field noteEars lie flat behind the hare like dragged ropes; it is listening to the field, and the field is listening back.
