Field guide No. 646
Dandelion under glass
Kept in, sand kept out.
In a ruined room half full of drifted sand, a glass dome stands on the floor over a little patch of green grass and one yellow dandelion. The rest of the house has gone to the desert.
Field noteA cloche over grass in a sanded-up room. Gardeners do this. They rarely do it in a house the desert has moved into.
Also possible, also breaking nothing
Sunlit burrows beneath red clayBurrows riddle a red clay bank so thoroughly that clear sky and clouds show through every tunnel.
The missing guestTables can be built round a gap. Laying for whoever made it is etiquette, not metaphysics.
The piano keys wandered awayLoose keys can be laid across a stage. The piano is missing a few, not a dimension.
Red mortar, blue iceRed brickwork runs through a wall of blue glacier ice. The building has found an unusual basement.
