Field guide No. 640
Coral blossoms in desert tire tracks
Something drove through the reef.
On cracked dry ground a set of deep tyre tracks curves away into the distance, and pink and orange coral grows thick in every tread. The sea must have been in the car.
Field noteCoral needs seawater and gets none here. It has grown along a tyre track in baked mud as if the tread were a reef.
Also possible, also breaking physics
The nail that unrustsRust creeps on and never back. On this nail it flakes off to leave bright new steel.
First light insideA raven holds the setting sun in its open beak. Evening has been delivered early.
Wave ceiling over an empty courtA green wave arches over a tennis court like a roof. Nobody is under it, and the net is intact.
The unpicked noteSeeds get into pianos and some will sprout given light. Nobody has watered a Steinway yet.
