Field guide No. 1414
Bed indentation through the wall
Someone slept in the wall
In a pink motel room, the rumpled sheets of a bed run into the wall, which keeps a bed-shaped hollow pressed into its plaster. The wall had a better night than the guest.
Field notePlaster takes an imprint while wet; this wall was apparently slept in long enough to dent.
Also possible, also breaking material
The velvet switchbackRoads take any surface that bears weight. Velvet bears it badly, and beautifully.
Emerald rose in fossil stoneFossils keep the shape and lose the life. This stone rose kept the bud alive and wet with dew.
Oak grain within broken eggshellsBroken shells reveal polished oak grain. Breakfast has been locally sourced.
Bridge draped in white horsehairArch soffit grows a curtain of long white hair down toward the dry riverbed.
