Field guide No. 154
The pincushion wetlands
Stilt houses, sharp foundations.
A red tomato pincushion sits in a misty marsh with little wooden houses standing on its pins, and a heron wading below.
Field noteStilt houses need stilts; pins are stilts with a point. Herons do not ask about zoning.
Also possible, also breaking scale
Slow amusementA miniature funfair on a glass snail is a model maker’s commission. Ambitious, not absurd.
Harbor stringsGlass violins exist, and so do model harbours. Neither is improved by the tide, but both survive it.
The bell pepper operaPeppers are hollow and already have tiers of a sort. Opera houses are the same shape, with tickets.
A geological disagreementRock can bend and fold; tying a whole canyon in a knot just needs more time than there has been.
