Field guide No. 1217
The horse's impossible snow hooves
Prints from a larger boot.
A dark horse stands in a snowy paddock, its tracks behind it showing deep round hollows where hooves should have made smaller marks. It is looking away, as if that settles it.
Field noteHoofprints far larger than the hoof that made them. The horse is ordinary; its tracks simply came from a bigger animal.
Also possible, also breaking scale
Last light at the funnelRead charitably, the bowl holds something that reflects the sunset. Funnels have never been charitable.
Red fingerprint across the moonFingerprints are smaller than a thumb. This one is pressed across a stretch of the moon in red dust.
Giant dandelion through the barn doorA seed head taller than the doorway stands in it, which is large rather than contradictory.
Slow amusementA miniature funfair on a glass snail is a model maker’s commission. Ambitious, not absurd.
