Field guide No. 478
The 8:03 leaf train
On time, shedding.
A high-speed train covered entirely in green leaves pulls into a wet, empty station, shedding leaves as it goes. It is on time, which is the strange part.
Field noteTrains are steel and leaves are seasonal. This one is all leaf and will be bare by November.
Also possible, also breaking material
Wax transformer substation at midnightTransformers are steel and oil. Built in wax with lit wicks, they’d melt at the first load.
Amethyst seam through breakfastCrystal veins take ages to form in rock. This one formed through a loaf baked this morning and the worktop under it.
A different kind of grainWood grain takes many patterns. Peacock eyes are one it hasn’t been asked for.
The radiator’s soft landingOak that sags like a mattress is wood forgetting itself. Heavy radiators on soft floors are no paradox.
