Field guide No. 392
Sugar cube ant escape
The sugar walked off.
On a diner counter, a sugar cube perched on a cup of coffee is coming apart into tiny white ants made of sugar, marching away with crumbs of themselves. It didn’t want to be stirred in.
Field noteAnts carry sugar off grain by grain. Ants made of sugar are a different arrangement.
Also possible, also breaking material
The inflated highwayTarmac cracks long before it swells. Blown up like a lilo, it’s behaving like rubber.
Fresh airFruit makes a feeble blade, but a blade nonetheless. The fan would work, briefly and stickily.
The sea has pocketsWater stitched like denim breaks the fabric rules, not the logical ones. The key is perfectly ordinary.
The linen loafBread with a linen crumb is a baker using the wrong cupboard. Possible, if inedible.
