Field guide No. 247
Pea tendril holds the line
Please hold. It's growing.
A black rotary telephone's coiled cord has turned into a pea vine, its tendril curling round the handset and putting out a white flower. The call has been on hold all season.
Field noteCoiled cord and pea tendril were always the same shape. One merely started growing.
Also possible, also breaking category
Deep purpleHollow it, seal it, add a periscope. Vegetables lack ambition, not buoyancy.
A small disagreementDomino pips are paint, not passengers. Letting them walk off is a category lapse, nothing worse.
The zebra’s unfinished stripesStripes are pigment, not ribbon, so the spool is a category slip. The half-zebra is otherwise sound.
Berry far awayDomes are domes; a red one with seeds would still track stars. Planning would object first.
