Field guide No. 1552
Deep sleep
Eyes wide, teeth too
A seal lies with its chin on a wet rock by a cold sea, and where its eyes should be are two holes lined with fangs. The face is relaxed; the eyes are not.
Field noteSeal’s eyes are fanged holes, the rest of its face asleep on the rock.
Also possible, also breaking category
Cave crickets carrying daylightCave crickets live where no light reaches, and these have each smuggled a little in on their backs.
Seals and the surging seaA screen is a picture of the sea, not the sea. The seals came anyway.
Anemone apertureShutters open and close to let light in. Anemones open and close to let lunch in. This camera does both.
Exploded cactus in a greenhouseA big cactus has burst into curled green petals and spines. The staff went to find gloves.
