Field guide No. 549
Cuttlefish in the empty subway
Camouflaged as the platform.
An empty underground station has a cuttlefish hovering over the platform, its skin copying the cream tiles and the blue stripe on the wall. It blends in perfectly, apart from floating.
Field noteOut of the sea, a cuttlefish should sink. This one hovers in dry air, wearing the station’s tiles.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Seasonal twistSnow on the peaks and blossom in the valley happen in any alpine May. The hovering pretzel does not.
Underwater cherry tree in bloomCherry trees drown in the sea. This one flowers on the seabed and sheds petals into the current.
Fixed brass door, spinning storeThe building appears to spin around its fixed brass door. The entrance has stayed on shift.
One egg beneath collapsed steelA single egg sits unbroken under a bent girder in a fallen hall, which is luck rather than contradiction.
