Field guide No. 542
Cloud completes the chalk cliff
The missing bit, filled in fluffy.
A long white chalk cliff above a calm sea has a bite out of its edge, and a cloud sits in the gap at exactly the cliff's height and shape. Temporary repairs, weather permitting.
Field noteChalk falls into the sea and stays gone. Here a cloud has settled into the gap, cliff-shaped.
Also possible, also breaking material
Petal bruise in clear crystalBruising is for fruit and shins. This crystal went purple where a petal touched it.
Slate wave on a silent shoreA wave of layered slate is frozen at its crest. It has been about to break for some time.
Zebra with a loose stripeZebra stripe peels free from the flank and hangs like a loose strap, the hide under it plain white.
Frozen splash across black basaltLava does set in ripples now and then. Rings round a dropped pebble is a neat coincidence.
