Field guide No. 1424
Burnt matches sprouting green life
Burnt out, starting over
Burnt matchsticks lie in a rusty tray, still glowing at the tips, and each tip is sprouting fresh green leaves. They went from fire to firewood to seedling.
Field noteMatch heads are chemistry, not seed, yet each charred stick is budding while it still smoulders.
Also possible, also breaking category
Borrowed spineA round cactus grows a long fish skeleton from its side. Very much a dry sort of aquarium.
The collared blue plateShirt collar, buttoned and starched, wraps the rim of a blue plate as if it were a neck.
Eggs spill from a rotary phoneA receiver carries sound, not eggs. Wrong cargo, sound telephone.
Sour lemon, shuddering linenTablecloths do not taste. This one has puckered toward a lemon slice from every edge.
