Field guide No. 1536
Back to life
Late bloomer, technically dead.
A snapped, rotten branch lies in a muddy ditch beside a country road. Its far end is sprouting fresh green buds anyway.
Field noteBudding on a limb already halfway to compost, it has not been told it fell off.
Also possible, also breaking nothing
Custard cathedralMoulded puddings in architectural shapes are an old banquet trick. Lighting one is the only liberty.
Forked dune, impossible horizonsA ridge can fork and leave several horizons in the same desert. Sand is allowed to be indecisive.
Rabbit burrows through velvet curtainA white rabbit emerges through a red theatre curtain. The backstage route is shorter.
Salt echoes in an orange stairwellSalt crust rings the stairwell in bands, like tide marks left by sound.
